St. Paul's Cathedral today and a brisk walk through "The City" as it is known to Londoners. (Financial District as it is known to the rest of us.) I was tempted to sing Feed the Birds on the steps to see Tom's reaction but I decided to be a good girl instead. Tom brought in a lovely lady by the name of Mary to show us around the Cathedral. Between the two of them I have learned so much about London. The statue of Queen Anne in front is commonly, and playfully, known as 'Brandy Nan.' Apparently her majesty liked her Brandy. The four statutes ringing her are representations of the colonies she owned during her reign. I love how the American is a bare-breasted Indian Maiden. Mary was amazingly knowledgeable about Christopher Wren and his church designs. We walked around the City a bit more with Mary pointing out Wren Churches and buildings as we went. The day was topped off with a traditional pub lunch in a pub called The Counting House. I had the steak and kidney pie and a fancy pint of beer. I'm on vacation so why not! It wasn't hard to picture Pip or Sydney Carton holding court at the bar.
